The benefits of an external mentor
My name is Jacqueline de Rojas and I have mentored a lot of women, and a lot of men, and people who are matched with external mentors often say that they really value the different perspective by someone who doesn’t have invested interest in their organisation or situation. Mentees who aren’t worried about political risks ask their most important questions, are much more transparent and perhaps reveal their vulnerabilities. The reason that’s important is because it gives them a huge platform from which to create opportunities and possibilities when they’re being authentic and true to themselves. Perhaps that’s the greatest value of an external mentor to just perhaps offer that space for the mentee to be amazing.
