Dear men: why you shouldn’t be afraid to mentor female colleagues like me

50:50 Mentor, Holly Peacock-Goodwin, recently wrote a piece for The Telegraph on the importance of male mentorship. Inspiration behind the article derived from recent statistics from LeanIn.org which revealed that 60% of male managers felt uncomfortable mentoring younger women. This was an increase of 32% from last year.

Our Co-Founder, Lynsey Harbottle, shared her thoughts on the matter stating that “senior leadership teams across a variety of sectors tend to be male-dominated. This means it’s vitally important for men – particular those in senior positions, to mentor younger women and support their growth. The process of mentoring is beneficial to both parties, It’s the opportunity to learn from one another’s experiences and perspectives on challenges regardless of their gender, sector or job title.”
