Katmex is a leading supplier of steel components to the heavy engineering, construction, and agricultural industries. Based in the UK, they provide high-quality steel cutting, fabrication, and machining services, supporting global manufacturing and infrastructure projects.

 

Katmex’s Aims

Katmex sought to embed EDI into its culture, ensuring inclusivity was reflected across all levels of the business. Leadership needed the tools and confidence to drive meaningful change, while recruitment processes required refinement to attract diverse talent and eliminate bias.

Additionally, the company aimed to strengthen internal collaboration, improve employee engagement, and create a more open and cohesive workplace.

 

 

50:50 Support Objectives;

  • Equip leaders with EDI knowledge and tools to champion inclusivity and drive cultural change.
  • Foster a more inclusive workplace by improving internal communication, trust, and collaboration.
  • Refine recruitment processes to remove bias, attract diverse talent, and promote equal opportunities.

  • Embed EDI into company-wide policies and procedures, making inclusion a core part of Katmex’s operations.

 

Impact

The collaborative efforts between Katmex and 50:50 started in 2022 and continues today. Since then the team have delivered significant results, with measurable improvements across the organisation:

  • Employee Engagement: Established an employee engagement team to amplify workforce voices and drive bottom-up initiatives.
  • Improved Cohesion: Strengthened inter-departmental collaboration and fostered a ‘one team’ mindset, enhancing workplace harmony.
  • Inclusivity Awareness: Elevated awareness of inclusivity aligned with Katmex’s core values.
  • Trust and Transparency: Encouraged openness and accountability. “The SMT are more approachable about all topics.”
  • Communication Enhancements: Increased communication frequency with line managers and shop-floor teams.
  • Flexible Work Practices: Currently trialling flexible working and condensed shifts at their Stockton site.
  • Recruitment Improvements: Introduced standardised criteria and inclusive hiring strategies to reduce biases. Continues to work with 50:50 on a monthly basis to revamp how they hire.
